Garrin Hertel of the Hot Club of Spokane

Garrin Hertel, co-founder of the Hot Club of Spokane, joins ALAYT this week to talk about the legacy and appeal of jazz manouche, our local Hot Club’s many musical faces, and how the swing dance community keeps the musicians on their toes.

Now a non-profit, the Hot Club of Spokane is the umbrella organization for Zonky Jazz Band, Red Hot Kitten Stompers (NB: they’re kittens who stomp!), the Swingtet of the Hot Club of Spokane as well as Woodside Swing.

The upcoming Lilac City Stomp, which features the Hot Club’s musicians and Woodside Swing, is a free all-day jazz and dance event at the historic Davenport Hotel on Oct. 24, 2026. There’s a ticketed portion in the evening.

And on November 8, the Swingtet of the Hot Club of Spokane will perform with guest accordionist Patricia Bartell at Hamilton Studio, where the Hot Club bands have a standing concert on the first Sunday of each month.
