Jane Bitz and Mickey McReynolds of the Inland Northwest Modern Quilt Guild (aka INMOD) join the conversation this week to discuss modern vis-à-vis traditional quilting and how that informs the guild’s current exhibition at Gonzaga University‘s Jundt Art Museum.
They both offer some background on their featured quilts in the exhibition, “26” and “Structures,” respectively. It’s an opportunity to talk about how elements like typography, collage and even sociopolitical commentary are incorporated into modern quilts.
There’s also some basic Quilting 101 on patterns like the log cabin, wedding ring and Ohio star, which are some of the traditional building blocks that modern quilters riff on.
And the Lightning Round that closes ever interview includes topics like noteworthy worms and whether dreams have meaning.
