State of Spokane Theater: A Conversation

Joe Henson of Hitchhiker's Theatre, Jess Loomer of Stage Left Theater and Jeffrey St. George of Inland Classical Theatre

Joe Henson of Hitchhiker’s Theatre, Jess Loomer of Stage Left Theater and Jeffrey St. George of Inland Classical Theatre pile into the Rogue Heart Media studio this week for an episode examining the state of the local theater scene.

From their different viewpoints, they discuss the challenges that theaters—both troupes and venues—are currently facing, how they’re adapting and some positive developments that have emerged in this changing landscape.

Just one product of these changes is that there seem to be more pop-up-style theater groups who are partnering with new venues or renting other theaters’ stages instead of pursuing the brick-and-mortar model.

Hitchhiker’s production of the musical A Year with Frog and Toad runs at the Spokane Central Library on Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25, 2026.

Stage Left is about to produce a regional premiere of Andrew Lee Creech’s Riverwood from Nov. 6–22.

And Inland Classical’s 2027 season is still being finalized. Keep an eye on their website and socials for updates.
